Mark B. Benjamin President & Chief Executive Officer
Mark comes to Galenea with 16 years of industry experience, 13 in business development. He was most recently the Chief Business Officer of Nura Inc., a neuroscience drug discovery company founded by 2004 Nobel laureate Dr. Linda Buck, which was acquired by Omeros Inc. in 2006. In previous positions, he served as Vice President of Global Business Development for Manteia SA, a Swiss-based subsidiary of Serono SA (now Merck KGaA) and was the senior business development executive at Rosetta Inpharmatics, a company founded by a team that included 2001 Nobel laureate Leland Hartwell. Rosetta was acquired by Merck & Company in 2001. Mark received a first class B.Sc. degree with honors from the University of London and a D.Sc. degree in Cancer Biology from Harvard University.

David J. Gerber Vice President, CNS Research
David is a founding scientist at Galenea. He has more than ten years of experience in CNS research primarily in the areas of psychiatric disease biology, molecular and behavioral neuroscience and mouse molecular genetics. Recently, his research has focused on the genetics of schizophrenia and particularly on the involvement of calcineurin dysfunction in schizophrenia pathogenesis. David received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from MIT in 1987 and a Ph.D. in biology from MIT in 1996. David pursued his postdoctoral research in Dr. Susumu Tonegawa’s laboratory at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT prior to joining Galenea in 2004.

Geraldine C. Harriman Vice President, Chemistry
Gerry has over ten years experience in the biotechnology industry in which she successfully delivered multiple “first in class” compounds against novel targets into clinical development. Prior to joining Galenea as Vice President of Chemistry, she was Senior Director of Chemistry at Millennium Pharmaceuticals responsible for the inflammation small molecule portfolio. Prior to her role at Millennium, she was one of the founding medicinal chemists at LeukoSite. Gerry received her Ph.D. from the University of Rhode Island in 1991, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Kansas. She is an author of over thirty publications, an author of several book chapters and an inventor on over fifteen small molecule patents.

Kazumi Shiosaki Scientific/Strategy Advisor
Kazumi has 20 years of senior R&D management experience, including positions with Abbott Labs, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, and Sention. She has significant background in CNS drug discovery and development, having helped to advance six compounds into clinical trails in various CNS indications. She has been involved in founding two companies, Primera Biosystems and Seaside Therapeutics, and serves as the start-up CEO of the former. As Executive Partner with MPM Capital, she is also actively involved with investments in the biotech sector. Kazumi is a member of the Galenea Board of Directors and is actively involved in Galenea scientific and strategic initiatives.

Lisa R. Paborsky Business Development
Lisa is a corporate development professional with a strong scientific background and 20 years experience in the biotech industry. She most recently was Senior Director, Corporate Development at Ensemble Discovery, a venture-backed start-up chemical discovery company. Prior to joining Ensemble Discovery, Lisa worked in the business development group at Biogen Idec. She played a central role in M & A, partnerships and research collaborations, completing numerous deals including the oncology partnership that ultimately led to the merger between Biogen and Idec. Lisa also spent several years at Gilead Sciences, initially as a Group Leader in discovery research and then transitioning into business development where she focused on both in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities. Lisa received her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Stanford University and performed post-doctoral research at Genentech.

Barbara Fleming Human Resources
Barbara has a broad background in corporate human resources, management training and organizational development. She provides a variety of human resources services to a diverse group of companies from high technology and biotechnology to traditional manufacturing. Previously, Ms. Fleming was director of Human Resources at Repligen Corporation, a Massachusetts biotechnology company. Ms. Fleming holds a BS degree in biochemistry and spent the early part of her career as a research scientist.

Michael D. Rivard, J.D. Head of Corporate Development
Mike brings over 15 years of experience in the biotechnology industry. He joined Galenea in February 2005 and has held a variety of positions, most recently Head of Corporate Development. Before that, he held the position of Vice President, Business Development, at Synta Pharmaceuticals, and the positions of Vice President, Strategic Development, and Vice President, Legal, and General Counsel at ArQule. Mike was also associate counsel (intellectual property) at the University of Massachusetts System and an associate at the law firm of Palmer & Dodge. Mike holds an undergraduate degree in biochemistry, summa cum laude, from Bowdoin College and a graduate degree in law, Order of the Coif, from UCLA.
