Galenea remembers special employees

Barbara Fleming
Barbara Fleming, Galenea's long-time human resources consultant passed away on July 30, 2010 from complications associated with leukemia. Her easy going style, approachability, intelligence and dedication will be sorely missed by the entire Galenea staff. Barbara joined Galenea at its inception and was responsible for hiring most of our key employees. She has been a member of our management team for the past seven years and played a central role in establishing the HR policies that define Galenea's corporate culture. We will warmly remember her sense of humor and compassion.

Antonia Destree
On November 9, 2009, Galenea's first employee, Antonia Destree, passed away after a long battle with melanoma, with several Galenea employees by her side. Toni was instrumental in setting up the labs at Galenea and a member of many committees. Toni was well known throughout the Cambridge biotechnology community, having worked at many area academic institutes, hospitals and start-up companies. Many of her friends remember her as an avid collector of art, a world traveler and a foodie. She had battled melanoma since the late 1990's and had sent it into remission twice, which was quite a feat, and one which we all thought she would be able to accomplish again, but in the end the disease won out. Time helps heal the loss but the memories remain, and we think of Toni every time we see her picture that hangs on the wall of our laboratory.
